Felipe Gonzales and Maria Cuc, founders of Maya Earth Coffee, have been involved with Mayan coffee farmers since the early 1990’s when they both worked with Mayan non-profit, grassroots organizations in Guatemala. During this time, Felipe worked with agronomists who provided technical assistance to Mayan Kekchi farmers in Alta Verapaz to improve their coffee yields, implement environmentally-friendly farming techniques, and plant new coffee seedlings. This experience led to his exporting organic coffee to Canada. Over the years, he continued to expand his network of professionals within the coffee industry including farmers, roasters, cuppers, exporters, and agronomists.

In 2001, shortly after returning to the USA, Felipe began developing his vision of establishing a coffee venture that would link an extended network of hard-working, humble Mayan farmers in the south with socially-conscientious consumers in the north. Eight years later, Felipe and Maria still continue to import and market Mayan-grown, fair trade, organic coffee and are expanding their network of farmers and coops whom they buy from in Guatemala, as well as retail, wholesale, and institutional customers, all across the United States and Canada.

Moonflower Enterprises is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, Co‐op America and the Northwest Fair Trade Network.
